Intro to Ski-Touring Course
Our "Intro to Ski-Touring" courses provide a fun, safe and accessible way for skiers to experience the freedom and beauty of true backcountry skiing for the first time. Our head coach Sam Parkes has 10 years experience guiding offpiste in Zermatt and holds the Brevet Federal and BASI ISTD qualifications.
Is this course for you?
This course is suitable for anyone who can ski comfortably everywhere on piste, already has some experience of skiing offpiste and with a level of fitness that willallow for gentle aerobic activity for up to 2 hours at a time.
If you're looking to find the best runs to suit your skiing or would simply like to explore the area and be recommended great coffee and lunch spots, booking a private instructor is the way to do it.
The ski instructors at Supreme have priority lift access, particularly useful during busy periods or on powder days, skiing with an instructor will enable you to use the ski school lines to jump part of the lift queue.

Our intro to Ski-Touring Course

This 3 day course is perfect for all confident skiers who want to take their first steps into the exhilarating world of ski touring. The groups are kept to just 4 students to ensure everyone receives the maximum feedback during this course and to ensure safety in the backcountry. Our head coach Sam holds the highest qualification in Switzerland, the Brevet Federal, and will go through all aspects of the discipline so that our students will learn the basics of:

- Transceiver rescue
- Snowpack analysis
- Map reading
- Route planning
- Equipment use
- Ski touring and offpiste technique

Start
9AM Meet in resort, make plans based on weather

Early Morning Program
9.30-10.30am: technical training on how to use touring skis and skins, practice uphill skinning

Late Morning Program
10.30am-11am: how to read and assess the SLF avalanche bulletin, how to plan a route based on the information 11am-12pm: offpiste technique training with video analysis

Lunch
12pm-12.45pm: stop for lunch

Afternoon
12.45pm-3pm: afternoon tour, working on uphill technique, map reading and navigation
